“Camila…”

The voice cut through the rain, sharp enough to make her flinch.

She lifted her head slowly, her heart pounding, rain streaming down her face, mixing with tears she couldn’t separate anymore—pain or anger, it didn’t matter.

Under the dim yellow streetlight, someone was running toward her.

“…Diego?” she whispered.

Her brother.

The one she hadn’t seen in months.

Not because he didn’t care—but because Álvaro had made sure distance grew between them, quietly, carefully, until it felt normal.

Diego didn’t speak right away.

He took off his jacket and placed it over her shoulders, his movements steady, gentle despite the storm. But when his eyes landed on the mark on her cheek, something inside him changed.

Not shock.

Something colder.

“Who did this to you?” he asked.

Camila didn’t answer.

She didn’t need to.

His gaze lifted toward the house behind her. Lights still on. Curtains shifting. Shadows moving like nothing had happened.

He already knew.

He always had.

“Come on,” he said firmly. “You’re coming with me.”

She hesitated, her eyes drifting back to the door.

That house.

The place she once called home.

Now it felt like something else entirely.

“I don’t have anything,” she said quietly.

Diego’s jaw tightened.

“You have yourself,” he replied. “That’s more than enough.”

This time, she didn’t argue.

She walked away.

Inside, Álvaro stood at the window, watching her leave.

His arms were crossed, his expression irritated more than concerned.

“She’ll regret this,” he muttered. “She has nowhere to go.”

Behind him, his mother let out a short, dismissive laugh.

“Let her go,” she said. “She’ll be back by tomorrow. They always come back.”

But Camila didn’t.

The next morning, the house felt different.

Too quiet.

No movement in the kitchen. No coffee waiting. No familiar rhythm he had grown used to without ever acknowledging it.

Álvaro frowned, checking his phone.

No messages.

No missed calls.

Nothing.

“It’ll pass,” he told himself.

But at 10 a.m., his assistant called.

“Mr. Álvaro… there’s an urgent meeting.”

“With who?”

A pause.

“With Mr. Diego Serrano.”

Something shifted in his chest.

When he arrived at the office, the atmosphere felt off.

People avoided his eyes.

Conversations stopped when he passed.

He ignored it.

Walked straight to the boardroom.

And stopped.

Diego was already there.

Sitting at the head of the table.

Calm. Composed. Completely in control.

“Sit down,” Diego said.

No greeting.

No politeness.

Just certainty.

Álvaro frowned but sat anyway.

Diego slid a folder across the table.

“Take a look,” he said. “Your reality.”

Álvaro opened it.

At first, he didn’t understand what he was seeing.

Then his expression changed.

Contracts.

Ownership documents.

Financial statements.

Signatures.

Camila’s name.

His hands tightened around the pages.

“What is this?” he asked, his voice lower now.

Diego leaned back slightly.

“The house,” he said. “It’s not yours.”

Álvaro’s head snapped up.

“That’s not possible.”

“It is,” Diego replied calmly. “It was purchased through a family trust. In Camila’s name. You were allowed to live there. That’s all.”

Silence filled the room.

“And the company?” Álvaro asked, his voice tighter now.

Diego didn’t hesitate.

“Also not yours,” he said.

Álvaro felt the ground shift beneath him.

“You’ve been operating under her shares,” Diego continued. “Shares she never used. Shares you assumed were irrelevant.”

Álvaro stared at him.

“That’s not how this works,” he said.

“No,” Diego agreed. “It’s not how you thought it worked.”

The room felt smaller.

Heavier.

“Effective immediately,” Diego said, sliding another document forward, “your access is revoked. Your position is under review. And the board has been informed.”

Álvaro’s confidence cracked.

“This is because of her?” he demanded.

Diego’s expression didn’t change.

“This is because of you.”

A pause.

“You threw her out,” Diego added quietly. “In the rain. Like she had nothing.”

Álvaro said nothing.

“Now you’ll learn what that actually feels like.”

That evening, Camila stood by the window of Diego’s apartment.

Dry.

Safe.

Still processing everything that had happened.

“You didn’t have to do all that,” she said softly.

Diego walked over, standing beside her.

“Yes, I did,” he said.

She looked at him.

“For months, I thought I had nowhere to go,” she admitted.

He shook his head.

“You were never without options,” he said. “You were just made to believe that.”

She let that sink in.

For the first time in a long time, the weight she had been carrying felt lighter.

Not gone.

But shifting.

Because something had changed.

Not just her situation.

Her understanding.

She wasn’t the one who lost everything that night.

He was.

And the difference was simple.

She walked away with herself.

He stayed behind with nothing that truly belonged to him.

And for the first time, she realized…

That was more than enough.
